I arrived late to the party that is Pajamas Media. While I heard whispers about the project many moons ago while it was in its planning stages, I didn't bother to pay much attention. I've also taken a step back from the blogosphere in the last month or so, so it wasn't really topping my list of priorities.
Reading back a few weeks at Hog on Ice today, I noticed that many bloggers aren't as welcoming to the idea as Roger Simon and Charles Johnson may have hoped. I'm counting myself among those guys.
Based on nothing more than a cursory glance at the site I'm left wondering if I'm missing the point. What are they trying to be, apart from a fairly poor right-leaning facsimile of the Huffington Post? Why should I, the reader, visit a disappointingly dull, soulless blog whose posts are written by someone named Compiled by Pajamas Media Staff in Los Angeles? I can get the same information, presented in a much more entertaining format, on any number of blogs in my favourites list. Hell, I can get this information from a freakin' newspaper. At least they usually tell me who's writing the articles. And I get the sports.
I'm sorry, but I'm not biting. If this is anything more than an ill-fated cash grab then I'll eat my boxers. A blog shouldn't have an errors and corrections page. A blog shouldn't have an advisory board, a press room and a group of editors. What you have here, boys, is a newspaper. And not a very good one, at that.
